The Dress

I still love the Karen Willis Holmes Margareta luxe collection gown, if I could wear it somewhere again I would haha but feel it deserves to taken out and worn on someone else's special day rather than sitting at home. The boat neck, low back and stunning beaded, sequin design give it a classy, old Hollywood feel and I felt amazing in it all day.

I wore the gown once on my wedding day and despite the beading it was really comfortable the whole day and didn't feel heavy on at all. It has been dry cleaned and could be worn all year round - I even wore mine on a summer's day and had no heat issues.

To note for full transparency there are a few minor points of discolouration to the train which are barely visible as per photos unless looking up very close and for them, they are actually mostly on the lining so cannot be seen. A few small rows of the beading/sequin work has come away from the fabric mainly on part of the train as shown in photo. Again you can hardly tell as per photos unless looking up close, especially when worn with the way the dress moves. There are also plenty of spare beads and sequins provided by KWH which can be easily re-added by a seamstress or yourself should you wish, this is reflected in the sale price being lower (RRP $3890).

The Margareta wedding gown is all about demure glam with its high cut boat neckline, long adorned sleeves, slim-fitting bias cut skirt and an open back that drops away off the shoulders right down to the waist. Finished with a fine beaded belt.

A note from Karen — “Margareta is one of my favourites because the beadwork is so sensational. I wanted it to feel organic, so if you imagine a very misty day or if you have a little bit of rain trickling down the window, that is how it all drops down delicately. The high classic front contrasts with a true statement back – she is cut down to the waist and sits wide – showing off the drama of the gown.”

Alterations

Hem:
The beaded hem was shortened at the front due to shorter height - approx. 165cm (height) + 9cm (shoes). Total height 174cm (measured).
The double layer inner lining was shorted another approx. 5cm which you can see in the photos (approx. 169cm).

Sleeves:
The sleeves were shortened slightly due to slightly shorter arm length but are still long as seen in photos.

The back:
The sides of the lower back at the base were taken in slightly by the KWH seamstress to prevent sagging.

Nil breast cups added.
