The Dress

I went to Kleinfeld for my dress mostly because my mother and sister love watching "Say yes to the dress.". I never thought of myself as the type to wear a gown and cry. But then, only two dresses into what was supposed to be a 3-hour appointment, it happened. The tears. And it was magical. I felt like a bride.

I had asked to be shown dresses that didn't have embroidery on them, didn't feel "princessy", was not sleeveless, and was unique and distinct. Memorable and elegant. Chic. Surprising. My stylist understood the assignment.

I have never loved a dress the way I have loved my wedding dress. Nothing about it disappointed. I would change nothing about it. When the wedding party ended and we were supposed to go to our room and change, I wound up going out to a bar with my husband - dress and all. We sat in the bar and strangers bought us drinks and celebrated a while longer with us. Everybody paid compliments to the dress (which perhaps they were doing to be nice and kind to a bride but they were saying the right buzz words for me: timeless, beautiful, elegant.)

The Atelier Pronovias website describes it as a "Mermaid crepe wedding dress with bateau neckline", and I guess it technically is but I am actually not a fan of the mermaid cut and mine didn't feel or look like quite a mermaid cut to me. I think I would describe it as somewhere between a trumpet and sheath cut.

This work of art of a dress doesn't deserve to be tucked away in an attic! It deserves to be worn and enjoyed. I sincerely hope that it brings you the joy it brought me and you feel as beautiful and as happy as I felt that day and as I have felt looking at the photos and videos of the day. Perhaps when you are done with it, you might want to pass it on too and the magic can keep spreading.

- I have kept and will include the fabric they trimmed from the dress to make it right for my height, which you could use for alterations.

- Underwear Tip (because this took me longer to figure out than the dress): Boombas and Skims low back capri is the winning combo for this one.

Alterations

The Kleinfeld team made a beautiful French bustle for the dress! It was incredibly comfortable, I recommend keeping it!
