Elegant Halfpenny Finsbury Dress and Peter Cape, styled and bought together at the Halfpenny headquarters in London.

The Finsbury dress is a simple and elegant dress with delicate straps, an art deco yoke skirt and a short train. I paired it with the Peter Cape for a timeless and ethereal look.

This pairing also allowed me to play with three looks during the day: the cape fastened together at the front for the ceremony, open and fastened to the straps for the afternoon reception, and removed completely for the first dance.

Amazingly we had a dry wedding in June 2024, so the dress had minimal grass stains and the cape was still in excellent condition by the end of the day.

The dress was dry cleaned at Village Dry Cleaners in Chorlton a week after the wedding. Both are now hung in the halfpenny storage bag in our wardrobe (smoke and dog free home). The Cape looks new and the dress has only a few tiny and faint marks along the hem, which are barely visible (as shown in the video).

The dress comes with the original Halfpenny hanger, dress bag, cotton handling gloves and dress care instructions.

Alterations

Minimal alterations were made on site by Halfpenny as the unaltered size 3 (equivalent to a UK size 10) was already a perfect fit. The dress was shortened for my height (I am 165cm tall and wore 5.5cm heels) and the train reduced slightly to make it easier to dance in.

An additional waist belt was added to the inside of the Finsbury dress by Halfpenny for extra comfort, support and to take some of the weight off the pleated skirt. This is fastened by three hooks and is invisible when worn. There is a dancing loop and pads sewn into the breast for added comfort.

There were no alterations to the length of the Peter cape. The only modification was to ensure that, when fastened at the front, the lowest point of the cape did not surpass the highest point of the back of the Finsbury Dress. This was to make the outfit even more seamless.

The dress is hung using its hanging loops, as advised by Halfpenny, to keep all weight off the straps when it is not being worn.
