About the Dress
This was a dress bought at the iconic San Francisco store, I Magnin, in 1983. It was THE place to shop in the city at the time. My engagement was only three months so my mother and I convinced the wedding salon to sell the sample dress off the rack and they agreed to do alterations after some fussing about the short time frame! My bust line was smaller than the dress size and rather than take it apart, they simply offered me some "fillers" so for anyone with a larger bust, should work well.
It was designed by an "up and coming young designer" (their words not mine) and has wonderful details: pleated waistline; three tailored bows at the back concealing snaps; handmade lace on the bodice and sleeves; a modest train that adds elegance without being overwhelming (and there is a bustle option). It is vaguely reminiscent of the Princess Di style which was very popular at the time but has none of the "creampuff" effect of her gown.
The dress was professionally cleaned directly after the wedding and carefully sealed in a custom box with acid free tissue. It has not been opened for almost 40 years so the original soft ivory color is still very much in tact and there is no yellowing or fading. There are no tears or repairs.
