About the Dress
Before I talk about the dress, CONGRATULATIONS! You're getting married and that's possibly THE most exciting thing ever! YAY!
OK now on to the gown.
I walked into Karen Willis Holmes and the Selena gown immediately caught my attention. I have always thought I'd be a long, slinky, backless dress bride but when I tried this gown on, my bridesmaids (that I usually can't shut up) went quiet and I knew it was the one.
You will find a few Selena gowns on this site but you won't find one like this, because while I stood there in the gown I loved the bodice of a few other gowns and with the amazing help from the staff, one of the women called Karen Willis Holmes personally and she designed me my very own dress!
The bodice is an Abbey Bodice made from beautiful lace. It buttons up at the back and has a fair amount of material there so it can be altered if you need to either take it in or let it out. The usual Selena gown is lace-up but I found buttons more elegant.
I'm a C cup but if you're smaller or bigger you can simply take it in or let it out. This dress is great at keeping the girls in and secure, even with amazing dance moves.
The skirt. Wow. So the usual Selena gown comes with the skirt as one piece and it's permanently attached. My gown is in two parts. You'll see from the photos that you can wear it with or without the layers of tulle on top. You simply put it around your waist and clip it at the back.
I wore both parts for the ceremony then took the outer layer off at the reception. It looked like I had two dresses for the day and it was easier to dance in. Winning!
I went way over my budget for this gown and still haven't told the hubby. LOL. But I did it hoping I could re-sell and give another bride the experience to look AMAZING in this one-of-a-kind dress.
The dress has been dry cleaned and is ready to go.
Length:
I am 5'6 tall and wore heels with a 10cm heel. But you can obviously can take it up if you need to.
~Flaws~
Talk to any bride and they will tell you they had a few small tears in their dress after the reception. That's because when you pin it up to dance, you can still have it stood on and pulled (when you're doing the 'to the floor' dance move - you know the one. My dress has two small tears on the under skirt layer (if you put the outer top layer skirt on you would never see them).
I called Karen Willis Holmes to have it fixed and they advised me to sell it with the tear and then when the next bride has alterations done on the dress (length or bodice) that she can have that repaired then.
*Please note: this is why I have reduced the price so much to $3,700. If there were no tears I would be selling this dress for at least $4,500*
